Xi’an Yisushe

Originally called “Shaanxi Lingxueshe,” Xi’an Yisushe was founded in the second year of the Revolution of 1911 (1912). So far, it has a history of more than 100 years. It is one of the three oldest drama clubs in the world. and mainly performs differnet Shaanxi Opera. It is located at Guanyuemiao Street(now called N0.282, Xiyi Road)

In 2006, Yisushe Theatre was listed as a state protected historic site.

Yi Sushe used the western literature narrative method, through the character Guan Zhenyi’s talk, the drama told a story about how the heroine Lin Mengyun followed Yi Sushe over 30 years, finally became the first Qinqiang actress and combined the important historical events of Yi Sushe. With careful selection of posters, Yi Sushe rules, historical newspapers and multimedia display, it tells the 37 years old history of the founding of Yi Sushe to the early liberation, expressed the heroic spirit and dedication of the Yi Sushe folks in the history.

Through the efforts of several generations, Yisushe has familiarized the world with Shaanxi opera as called “the Originator of Various Operas in China” which the world loves and praises highly of Shaanxi Opera is a local Chinese opera that mainly thrives in North China's Shaanxi Province, as well as its neighboring northwestern regions, like Gansu and Qinghai provinces and the Ningxia Hui and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions. The opera first originated from local folk songs and dance forms in the Yellow River Valley of evolved in ancient China's political, economic, and cultural center - Chang’an (today’s Xi’an) -- with the persistent efforts of the local people over generations.

In 2014, Xi’an Yisushe was named a non-material heritage site under the protection of the local government by the Ministry of Culture, thus becoming a protection unit of Shaanxi opera as a national intangible cultural heritage representative project.

By bus:

Take bus No.201, 611 and get off at Zhonglou Station, then walk northward for around 6 minutes.

Take bus No.603 and get off at Xihuamen, then walk southward for around 8 minutes.

By subway:

Take Subway Line 2 and get off at Bell Tower Station(Exit D), and walk eastward for 3 minutes.

By taxi:

It costs about CNY 10 from the Xi’an Railway Station to this scenic area.
