General Yang Hucheng Memorial is located in Kuiyuan Alley to the east of Pucheng County. Built in 1934, the memorial is a traditional residence. It faces the south and is divided into an east courtyard and a west one. The east courtyard is the main courtyard while the west one is used for a garden, with an area of 2 mu.

Yang Hucheng joined the Xinhai Revolution in his youth and had become a popular warlord of Shaanxi Province by 1926. Following the defeat of Feng Yuxiang and Yan Xishan in the Central Plains War of 1930, Yang allied himself with the Kuomintang’s Republic of China government becoming commander of the Kuomintang’s Northwest Army. Ordered to destroy the newly established Communist Party of China (CPC) stronghold at Yan’an with Zhang Xueliang’s Northeast Army in 1935, both Yang and Zhang Xueliang were impressed with the Communists’ determined defense and fighting capabilities. They were convinced by the Communist proposal for a united Chinese defense against the Japanese invasion of China.

The memorial is not only the former residence of General Yang Hucheng, but also a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level as well as the AAA scenic spot.

The memorial hall was opened to the public in 1983 during the 90th anniversary of the birth of General Yang.
