In ancient times, Baoji used to be called Chencang or Yongcheng. It was “the birthplace of Emperor Yan, the hometown of bronze ware, the holy land of the Buddha’s Relics, the village of club fire, and the origin of Zhou and Qin Civilizations.”


During Han and Tang Dynasties, Chang’an – Yongcheng – Longzhou used to be the busiest and the most famous section of the Silk Road. Since immemorial time, Baoji has been a very important courier station along the ancient Silk Road.


With a very long history, Baoji has a history of more than 2,770 years in the construction of the city. The four great treasures during the late Qing Dynasty (Duke Mao Tripod, Great Yu Tripod, San Family Plate and Ji Zibai Plate of the Guo State), as well as Chencang Drum-shaped Stone Blocks, Hezun Ritual Wine Vessel, Plate of Lai, Copper Pagoda and other such cultural relics have been excavated from the city. It also keeps West-fu Club Fire, Spring Festival Xylography Pictures in Fengxiang, clay sculptures and other such Chinese crafts.
