The lantern show is a traditional Chinese folk cultural activity. Held every year from around the Spring Festival up to the Lantern Festival, the Xi’an City Wall Spring Lantern Show is always the climax of the Chinese New Year celebrations in this city.

On the evening of February 8th, the 2018 Xi’an City Wall Spring Lantern Show kicked off in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province with thousands of brightly colored lanterns such as the “Dragon Lantern” (symbolizing success), “Birds and Flowers Lantern” (symbolizing an idyllic scene), and “Flying Dream Lantern” lighting up this ancient city.

The Xi’an City Wall Spring Lantern Show has committed to the pursuit of presenting the most authentic Spring Festival for the past 31 years. Drawing, framing, sampling, welding, pasting, etc.- it takes countless processes and six months for hundreds of carpenters to create a variation of lanterns combining ingenious thoughts and painstaking efforts. Every lantern is the blossom of an intangible cultural heritage and craftsmanship imbued with heartfelt blessing, waiting for visitors at the beginning of the Chinese New Year.

This year’s lantern show boasts exhibitions of four themes namely “Glory of the Golden Age”, “New Year Prayers”, “Light of the World” and “Happy Fairyland”, displaying over twenty groups of large lanterns with the highest one reaching around 15 meters.
