Xi'an establishes friendly ties with Paphos in Cyprus

Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, recently held a symposium with Paphos in Cyprus, during which both cities signed a letter of intent to establish friendly exchange relations.

This makes Paphos the 69th world city to set up such a relationship with Xi'an.

Located in the southwest of Cyprus, Paphos ranks as its fourth-largest city with a population of 58,000. It is known as the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. Founded in 1,400 BC, it was once the capital of Cyprus.

Paphos is home to a number of valuable historical sites. The entire city was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980.

In 2017, it was designated as the European Capital of Culture, and in 2023 it earned the title of 2023 European Capital of Smart Tourism.
