Xi'an sees tourism, consumption boom over May Day holiday
Xi'an, the capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, posted a strong rebound in its consumer market over the May Day holiday from April 29 to May 3.

During the five-day holiday, districts, counties and development zones in the city launched a series of themed activities to promote consumption.
The city's 48 key commercial and trade distribution companies achieved total sales of 1.26 billion yuan ($182.6 million), a year-on-year increase of 17.4 percent, and an average daily sales growth rate of 19.58 percent compared with the same period in 2019.

Xi'an, together with Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Wuhan and Shenzhen, ranked among the top 10 tourist destinations in China among domestic travelers over the holiday.
Data from the Meituan e-commerce platform showed that the most popular tourist attractions in Xi'an included Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, Xi'an City Wall, Shaanxi History Museum, Tang Paradise, Xi'an Qinling Wildlife Park, and Xi'an Qinglong Temple Site Scenic Spot.
Nighttime consumption in Xi'an increased by 159 percent during the break compared with the same period last year.
Also, various immersive performances aroused the interest of audiences, especially young people, serving as an eye-catching phenomenon to enrich the city's cultural landscape.
