The 33rd Flying Apsaras Awards – representing the top honors in China's television industry – were held in Beijing on Nov 1 and some 16 outstanding TV dramas were selected.

Among the 16 dramas that were honored, three were created, produced or participated in by film and television units in Xi'an – capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – demonstrating the city's achievements in promoting its literary and artistic creations.

The Xi'an dramas that were honored were the Medal of the Republic, Zhuangtai and The Ideal City.

The Medal of the Republic was co-produced by the Xi'an Qujiang Film & TV Investment (Group) Co. The drama tells the true stories of the first eight recipients of the Medal of the Republic, China's highest honor.

In addition to the outstanding TV drama award, young actor Wang Lei also won the excellent actor award for his performance as Li Yannian, a combat hero who made a great contribution to the establishment and defense of the People's Republic of China, in the drama.

Zhuangtai is affectionately regarded by many locals for the publicity series of videos about the ancient city of Xi'an. The drama is adapted from the novel of the same name by Mao Dun Literature Award winner Chen Yan.

From the perspective of Diao Shunzi, a Xi'an local, it tells the ups and downs in the life of a group of ordinary folks.

The Ideal City was funded and filmed with the participation of the Xi'an Qujiang Cultural Industry Investment (GROUP) Co.

It connects the dreams and hard work of people in different workplaces and shows the tough and beautiful side of human nature. It has aroused heated discussion and attention due to its discussions of many practical issues.
