Xi'an promotes its grapes, boosts sector's competitiveness
A big promotion for grapes and a city-wide grapes judging competition was held in Huyi district of Xi'an – capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – on Sept 2.
The event aimed to help boost the quality and efficiency of Xi'an's fruit-growing sector, assist rural revitalization and industrial integration and development, and bolster the market competitiveness of Xi'an's grapes.
On Sept 1, the organizing committee of the event judged 102 grape samples submitted by 11 districts, counties and development zones in Xi'an.

After evaluation of such things as color and pesticide residues, awards were conferred in the form of two platinum awards, 12 gold awards, 20 silver awards and 30 quality awards.
In addition, some 21 grape samples – selected by 15 enterprises, cooperatives and family farms in the Huyi district – won two platinum awards, three gold awards, seven silver awards and eight quality awards.
The event also showcased some new and excellent grape varieties such as the Shenhua, the Hutai No 8 variety and shine-muscat grapes.
Xi'an has a grape planting area of nearly 120,000 mu (8,000 hectares) and an annual output of more than 180,000 metric tons. This is mainly concentrated in Huyi, Chang'an and Baqiao districts, the Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone and the Xixian New Area.
Huyi – known as the hometown of Hutai grapes in China – has established one provincial-level, seven municipal-level grape modern agricultural parks and 50 standardized grape demonstration gardens of more than 100 mu.
