Beilin district in Xi'an joins national IP demo group
The Beilin district in Xi'an – capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – was selected on Aug 29 as one of the new national demonstration counties and districts recognized for being strong in the development of intellectual property (IP), according to the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

Covering an area of 23.37 square kilometers, Beilin is the central urban area of Xi'an. In 2021, the GDP of the district reached 109.89 billion yuan ($15.92 billion).
It is one of the urban areas with the highest concentration of scientific and technological talent and sci-tech achievements in the province and even in the whole country.
It is home to 17 colleges and universities including Xi'an Jiaotong University, and has 131 scientific research institutions. It also has 10 national key laboratories and six national engineering technology centers, as well as 45 academicians and more than 30,000 scientific researchers of various types.

In recent years, Beilin has promoted the transformation of its sci-tech achievements and talent entrepreneurship with high-level IP creation, applications, protection, management and services.
From 2020 to 2021, Beilin had a total of 18,927 patent authorizations and 12,241 trademark registrations.
By the end of 2021, the district had 21,030 valid invention patents and a ratio of 277.88 invention patents per 10,000 residents. There were 16 valid registered trademarks per 100 businesses and in addition, there has been an average annual technology contract transaction volume of 14 billion yuan over the past three years.
Moving forwards, plans are for Beilin to give full play to its advantages in science, education and talent – making the development of the IP system the core and promoting the high-quality creation of IP in the district.
