Smart city construction makes urban management more efficient
The rapid development of information technology has played an important role in the construction of a livable city and has considerably refined management in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
In 2021, through a WeChat applet, the Xi'an urban management bureau collected and compiled data for a Xi'an urban management map – featuring such things as morning markets, public toilets, parks, breakfast spots, night market barbecues and food stalls.

The Xi'an urban management map is a smart module designed for the Xi'an integrated digital urban management platform.
The platform draws up a grid of industry layers for operations in law enforcement, sanitation, greening of landscapes, various municipal services, lighting, gas and heat. This further standardizes and clarifies things for the responsible units engaged in urban management issues.
Another intelligent platform – an urban waterlogging and flood control information system – has access to data resources covering such areas as Xi'an's real-time weather, rainfall and meteorological cloud maps, as well as urban flood control-related monitoring data.
Relying on sensing equipment powered by the internet of things and a digital communications technology monitoring system, once a monitored manhole cover – for example – is displaced, missing, damaged, or rolled over, the system will automatically sound an alarm.
Any abnormal situation identified by the system will inform maintenance personnel immediately, resulting in the safety hazards being effectively dealt with.
In recent years, Xi'an has been accelerating its development as a smart city. Technology has led to a new model for urban management. This is constantly improving the levels of refinement and intelligence in urban management, making people's lives smarter, safer, more beautiful and more convenient.
