Xi'an's foreign trade up 12.5% in Jan-April

From January to April, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, saw 141.54 billion yuan ($21.18 billion) in foreign trade, an increase of 12.5 percent year-on-year, according to Xi'an Customs.

During this period, exports increased by 39.5 percent to 85.27 billion yuan, while imports decreased by 13.1 percent to 56.27 billion yuan. The trade surplus was 29 billion yuan.

Possessing trade dominated foreign trade during this period, accounting for 59.9 percent of the total value with a value of 84.72 billion yuan. General trade and bonded logistics were valued at 40.07 billion yuan and 13.05 billion yuan, respectively, accounting for 32.1 percent and 9.2 percent of the total.

Xi'an's foreign trade with ASEAN, the EU and the United States grew by 53 percent, 23.1 percent and 9.7 percent from the previous year, respectively.

Trade with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative amounted to 26.69 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 41.4 percent and accounting for 18.9 percent of the total.

Foreign trade carried out by foreign-invested enterprises, private enterprises and State-owned enterprises was valued at 90.46 billion yuan, 43.83 billion yuan, and 7.05 billion yuan, respectively.

Mechanical and electrical products, agricultural products, basic organic chemicals, and textile yarns and products were the main exports, while mechanical and electrical products, coal and lignite, iron ore, soybeans, and unwrought copper and copper materials were the main imports.
