During this year's Spring Festival holiday from Jan 31 to Feb 6, Northwest China's Shaanxi province reportedly experienced a solid retail and consumer market, with a sufficient supply of daily necessities.
Over the seven-day break, the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Commerce launched various shopping festivals. It mobilized commercial and trade circulation enterprises, including shopping malls, retail complexes, and brand chain restaurants and hotels to roll out various discounts and promotions.
This is understood to have created a strong festive atmosphere and further released pent-up consumer demand.
The 524 commercial and trading businesses that are closely monitored as economic bellwethers in the province generated total sales of 1.44 billion yuan ($226.46 million), including 1.39 billion yuan in retail sales and 46.58 million yuan in catering income, in line with the same period last year.
The average daily retail volume of rice, noodles, oil, meat, eggs, milk and vegetables in 46 key supermarkets in the province was about 3,600 metric tons – 40 percent higher than the average daily transaction volume.
