Themed event held in Xi'an to welcome Dragon Boat Festival

A themed event to welcome the upcoming traditional Dragon Boat Festival was held in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, on June 15.

Also known as Duanwu Festival, it commemorates the suicide of patriotic poet Qu Yuan from the state of Chu during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). The festival also involves eating zongzi, glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in reed or bamboo leaves and falls on June 22.

Accompanied by the cheerful sound of gongs and drums, the event started with a beautiful lion dance performance.

Community residents and art volunteers performed songs and dances, and two famous Qin Opera masters brought sonorous and powerful performances, winning rounds of applause from the audience.

Also, well-known intangible cultural heritage inheritors Chang Xiao and Nie Zhikuan explained the Dragon Boat Festival culture and traditional etiquette knowledge.

In addition, the event organizer prepared various exciting activities for the public interest, including making zongzi, making sachets, and a game of guessing riddles.

With colorful forms and rich content, the event guided the public to further learn about and appreciate the relevant knowledge of traditional festivals and fully feel the charm of traditional culture.
