Xi'an City Wall starts soliciting Spring Festival couplets
A solicitation activity for the 2022 Xi'an City Wall Spring Festival couplets was officially launched on Oct 29 and will run until Nov 29.
The Xi'an City Wall was expanded in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) on the foundation of the imperial city walls of the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) dynasties. It is the oldest, most well-preserved, and largest ancient city wall in the world.
The activity will collect Spring Festival couplets from Chinese people all over the world. The couplets will be reviewed three times by the professional review team of the Chinese Couplets Association.
Finally, 24 pairs of outstanding couplets will be announced to the public and be hung on the gates of the Xi'an City Wall before the 2022 Spring Festival.
This year's Spring Festival couplet solicitation activity has a youth group aimed at inspiring young people to participate in the traditional cultural experience.
Global fans of couplets can follow the "Meet Xi'an City Wall" (遇见城墙) official WeChat account for real-time information and to participate in the event.
The solicitation activity for Xi'an City Wall Spring Festival couplets has been held 15 times since 10 pairs of Spring Festival couplets first appeared on the gates of the Xi’an City Wall with a thousand years of history and culture in January 2006.
The activity gives the world a chance to learn about traditional Chinese culture.
