In the prosperous Tang Dynasty, there were tens of thousands of Hu people learning Chinese in an alley in Shaanxi, hence the name "Learning Alley"(Da Xiao Xue Xi Xiang). This is considered as the oldest alley in China.

Among eighteen tombs of the Tang Dynasty, Qianling Mausoleum is the best-preserved one, and it is also the only tomb that has not been stolen. Located in Qianxian County, Xianyang City, it is the joint tomb of Emperor Tang Gaozong Li Zhi and Empress Wu Zetian.

The bell that rings on every New Year's Eve comes from Shaanxi. Tang Jingyun Bell is a national first-class cultural relic，which is now in the Xi'an Beilin Museum. Recorded by the CNR as New Year's bell, it is still in use.

With many mountains and rivers in southern Shaanxi, lots of places are named after "Chuan(River), Ba(Dam), and Ping(Terrace)".

The plaque of the City God Temple on West Street in Xi'an says "Ni Lai Le Me". It is a Taoist epigram that means "Have you got your just deserts?", implying that justice has long arms. The witty words have attract lots of visitors.

Shaanxi is the country's leading province in apple output. Both Liquan County and Baishui County claim to be the best producing area for apples. In addition, there are Lintong pomegranate, Luochuan Hongfushi(apple), Baishui organic apple, Xixiang cherry, Guanzhong peach, Huxian grape, Chang'an strawberry, Zhouzhi kiwi, Meixian kiwi and other specialties.

Why does subway construction in Xi'an take so long? Because there are too many cultural relics! A total of more than 130 ancient tombs were discovered along Metro Line 2, and more than 200 artifacts were unearthed. The construction is prone to be held up by excavation of cultural relics.
