Western China Science & Technology Innovation Harbor in Fengxi

At present, the largest undisturbed geothermal heating system project in China has been put into use in the western China Science and Technology Innovation Port in Fengxi New City, Xixian New District, Shaanxi Province. Six integrated energy supply stations for undisturbed geothermal heating system are providing 1.59 million square meters of building heating, cooling and domestic hot water for 23 national laboratories, 25000 scientific researchers and 10, 000 teaching staff of Xi'an Jiaotong University in the innovative port, Xixiang New District.

It is understood that the project mainly uses non-interference geothermal heating technology, using medium and deep geothermal energy, through metal ducts and heat exchange media, from 2 km to 3 km underground, temperature in 70 to 120 degrees Celsius geothermal energy, "only heat does not draw water," to provide a clean heat source.

Taking this project as an example, compared with the traditional coal-fired boiler, the use of this technology for heating can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 68000 tons, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other emissions by 68000 tons in a heating season, and can replace 25400 tons of standard coal.

As the first region in China to use this new technology in a large area, Fengxi New City, Xixian New District, has been piloting in Tongde Jiayuan Community and headquarters Economic Park since 2015. Up to now, the scale of construction and application has reached 10 million square meters. As a state-owned enterprise in Fengxi Xincheng, Fengxi Energy Company has accounted for more than 60 per cent of the total number of technology research and development teams, and has more than 10 authorized patents. It has the ability to operate from planning, design to construction, and has become the forerunner of promoting the energy consumption revolution.

Since the beginning of the construction of Fengxi New City in Xixian New area, it has actively explored the road of green development. In 2015, he was selected as the first pilot project of sponge city construction in China. Up to now, a total of 2.4 million square meters of sponge parks, more than 80 kilometers of spongy roads, nearly 2 million square meters of park green space, 36 kilometers of flood control and beach restoration have been built, and a fourth-level Rain Water collection and utilization system has been built, which has truly achieved environmental friendliness and an average groundwater level rise of 3.43 meters. As a typical case of the Chinese government dealing with climate change, it has appeared at the United Nations Climate Conference in Paris.

In recent years, the green development of Fengxi New City in Xixian New area has appeared frequently on the international stage. In September 2018, Fengxi Xincheng, Xixian New District, hosted the "China-Asia Pacific Municipal Energy Seminar" to discuss regional energy use practices and experiences; held the 2018 International Symposium on Sponge City Construction, bringing together more than 100 top experts and scholars from all over the world to contribute Chinese wisdom and programs to global ecological construction.

At the invitation of the United Nations Environment Programme in June 2019, at the annual partnership meeting of the Regional Energy Initiative and the governing Council of the (GEF) funded Project of the Global Environment Facility, Fengxi Xincheng presented its experience in the utilization of geothermal energy in the middle and deep layers. In the same year, he was invited to participate in the second International Forum on low-carbon Urban Development, held in Seoul, South Korea, and delivered a speech to demonstrate the remarkable results of green development to the world.

In July 2019, Fengxi New City was officially authorized as a new global ecohydrological demonstration site by UNESCO to participate in the meeting of global ecohydrological demonstration sites organized by the United Nations Organization for Science, Education and Culture (UNESCO).

In August 2019, the 2019 International Clean Heating Summit was successfully held. The geothermal heating technology in the middle and deep layers was widely concerned and recognized by experts and scholars in the industry. Fengxi Xincheng headquarters Economic Park Integrated Energy Supply Station was awarded the National Clean Energy Demonstration Engineering Award.

"We are integrating advanced energy technologies such as geothermal energy, ground source heat pumps, solar energy, wind energy, ice storage and so on, providing energy services to schools, hospitals, communities, commercial complexes, science and technology parks, building regional energy Internet, providing intelligent energy services, and building green and low-carbon urban areas through a new generation of information technology." Liu Yubin, member of the Party and work Committee of Xixian New District, secretary of the Party Committee of Fengxi New City, and director of the Management Committee, said.
