Abundant Mineral Resources

Shaanxi is rich in natural resources especially mineral resources.

Shaanxi Province is one of provinces with affluent mineral resources in China. Among the 160 main mineral species useful in the world, 138 species (including sub-mineral species) have been discovered in Shaanxi, 93 species have proven reserves and more than 510 origins. The top 3 reserves in China are molybdenum, mercury, rhenium, titanium, gold, coal, blue asbestos, ordinary asbestos, cement limestone and chemical limestone, bauxite and refractory clay.

The central part of Shaanxi is featured by non-ferrous metals, precious metals, ferrous metals and non-metallic minerals; the Daba Mountain in the southwest is mainly featured by manganese, phosphorous, and gypsum. There are 46 counties and cities in Shaanxi Province where coal is distributed, and 99% of the total reserves are concentrated in northern Shaanxi and Weibei. In addition, oil and natural gas are also very rich, with an oil-bearing area of about 50,000 square kilometers and a total reserve of 100 million tons.

- Total Resource Reserves: The mineral reserves which have been recorded on the mineral resource reserves list are evaluated at over RMB 42 trillion, ranked top nationwide.

- Energy Resources: The recoverable deposit of coal, oil and natural gas is respectively ranked fourth, fifth and fourth nationwide.

- Other Resources: Shaanxi has considerable reserves of iron, copper, lead, aluminum, molybdenum, gold, silver, etc. Its reserves of salt and phosphorus are respectively ranked first and seventh in the country.
