The popular ancient city of Xi'an still full of vitality

After the closure of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Datang Everbright City on Oct 20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Huimin Street, also known as the Muslim Quarter – situated in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – continues to be popular in the ancient city. Located in downtown Xi'an, the street is known nationally for its flour-based local cuisine and Muslim culture. It is also a great place for adventurous food tours, making it popular among domestic and overseas visitors. [Photo/IC]

A shop selling green bean cakes on Huimin Street in Xi'an is favored by citizens and tourists. Special snacks can be tasted on the street, such as Jinggao – a rice cake made of sticky rice and Chinese dates. Then there's Paomo on offer, which is shredded pita bread soaked in mutton or beef soup. To top it offer there is Roujiamo, a kind of beef burger, and persimmon cakes are also for sale. [Photo/IC]

The Bell Tower, another cultural and tourism landmark in Xi'an, is located downtown near Huimin Street. With a history dating back more than 600 years, it is typical of the architecture of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and has been witness to the prosperity of the ancient city. [Photo/IC]
