Xi'an Shadow Puppet Art Museum in northwest China's Shannxi Province displays a variety of shadow puppets, stage properties and scripts dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). 　

Chinese shadow puppetry, one of the exquisite folk dramas in the east, enjoys great popularity in China.

It is a silhouette made of hard paper and the skin of a buffalo and donkey. The performer manipulates the characters behind the screen while singing the libretto to tell the story.
