Xi'an Chanba National Wetland Park (also Wetland Park), in the northeast of Xi'an City and the north of Xi'an Chanba Ecological Zone, is located on the delta where the Bahe River enters the Weihe. It is 19 kilometers away from downtown Xi'an and only 3 kilometers away from the famous tourist site "Jingweifenming" (the site where Jinghe River and Weihe River converge but have a clear dividing line). It was formally approved by the State Forestry Administration and approved as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction in 2014.

The wetland park covers an area of 4,700 acres, among which over 2,400 acres is water. There are four major landmarks, including Origin Gate, Science Venue, Bird Watching Tower, and Wetland Water Street, and four areas, namely Wild Fun Zone, Exquisite Zone, Fashion Zone, and River Zone”. It was officially completed and opened on April 28, 2013.

The Wetland Park, a landmark project for the Chanba Ecological Zone to create a national ecological civilization pilot zone, has received extensive attention from mainstream media and all sectors of society. As an urban nature reserve, natural habitat for wetland animals and plants, and a free paradise for birds, the wetland park is an ideal place to experience the city's "quiet culture" and a wonderful name card for Xi'an.

With numerous islands, water systems and plants, the wetland park provides a natural wetland ecosystem suitable for animals and plants. The wetland park has more than 110 islands in different size and the water source comes from the natural river course of the Bahe River. There are 193 species of plants covering 1.6 million square meters and 120 kinds of birds with the largest observation up to ten thousand each time.

Bird Watching Tower

The first-class birds observed in the wetland park include black stork and Chinese Merganser; the second-class include white spoonbill, kestrel, common buzzard, white-tailed harrier, short-eared owl, and red horned owl. Among them are the Chinese Climbing Finch and the Spotted Munia, a new record of bird species in Xi’an. Cormorant, the largest wintering bird, with a population of nearly 5,000, also forms unique scenery. Migratory birds migrate and stop here, yet some of them choose to stay in the wetland park.

Located in the upper air vent of Xi'an, the wetland park has effectively improved the air quality in Xi'an through the wetland system. Compared with the main urban area, the humidity and temperature of the air here is much more agreeable. The maximum of NAI reaches 17,800 units, providing a natural "oxygen bar" to Xi'an citizens.

Bahe River enters the wetland park and is perified through the 33,000 square meters of artificial wetland at the entrance and vast natural wetland in the park. Water quality indicators are significantly improved, with a 50% reduction rate of total nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen.

Science Venue

The buildings, roads and facilities in the wetland park are close to nature from its concept, design to material selection and craftsmanship, reflecting the natural characteristics of the wetland. The same is true for the venue construction. The design of iconic buildings, such as the Science Venue and Bird Watching Tower, is based on animals and plants here. Among them, the Science Venue is leading among similar venues acroos the country in its construction scale and exhibition.
