Xi'an East Railway Station 80% complete

The interior decoration of the station has now entered the final stage, while the installation of supporting facilities is progressing at full speed, with 80 percent of the project's total construction already completed.

The station serves as an extra-large comprehensive transportation hub integrating high-speed rail, conventional rail, metro, and bus services. It has a total construction area of 394,000 square meters, including a station building of around 100,000 square meters, divided into three main levels: the exit level, platform level, and elevated waiting hall level.

China Railway Xi'an Group Co has led the entire construction process, resolving issues during construction and ensuring the steady progress of all projects. During the period of construction, cutting-edge technology has served as a prominent tool in completing key tasks and resolving difficult challenges.

China Railway 22nd Bureau Group Co is responsible for laying 140.4 kilometers of tracks, putting in place 469 box girders, and establishing 23 supporting buildings at the station. Relying on an intelligent management platform, the project team has integrated several new technologies and implemented comprehensive support measures.

China Railway 14th Bureau Group Co is responsible for the construction of multiple projects, including the station's power transformation and distribution, power supply, and lighting systems. To date, 80 percent of the total workload has been completed.

China Railway No 3 Engineering Group Co is in charge of the main concrete structure below the track-bearing layer and the interior decoration of the station. To address challenges such as the complex underground construction environment and limited operating space, the company has upgraded its equipment to solve on-site construction difficulties.

China Railway First Bureau Group Co is responsible for the power supply of communications, signaling, and traction. By developing a closed-loop management and control system, it has effectively solved the challenges of multi-disciplinary cross-construction. So far, the construction work is more than 90 percent finished.

To improve operational efficiency and passengers' travel experiences after the station's completion, Xi'an Railway Station has set up an intervention team in advance to participate in the whole construction process of Xi'an East Railway Station.

"We have applied the experience gained from the renovation of Xi'an Railway Station and the operation of Xi'anbei Railway Station to the construction of the Xi'andong Railway Station. We have conducted in-depth coordination with the construction party, and considered and resolved various preparatory issues in advance to ensure efficient and smooth operations once the station is put into use," said Peng Yue, leader of the intervention team.

China Railway Xi'an Group Co has coordinated all participating units to advance the construction of Xi'an East Railway Station, Xi'an-Shiyan High-speed Railway, and Xi'an-Ankang High-speed Railway during the Spring Festival holiday, promoting high-quality project delivery through high-standard construction.

Once put into operation, Xi'an East Railway Station is expected to handle 36.5 million passengers a year. This will greatly ease the passenger flow pressure on Xi'an's railway hub, and is of great significance in enhancing Xi'an's strategic role in the national railway network. This will support the construction of a new hub for inland reform and opening-up, and contribute to the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
