​ASEAN becomes Xi'an's biggest trade partner

In the first 10 months of this year, Xi'an's total import and export value with ASEAN reached 63.5 billion yuan ($8.97 billion), a year-on-year increase of 21.6 percent, accounting for 16.1 percent of the city's total foreign trade value.

Among them, foreign-invested enterprises have shown outstanding performance, with a year-on-year increase of 19.5 percent in imports and exports to ASEAN, accounting for 76.5 percent of Xi'an's total trade value with ASEAN.

The import and export value of processing trade between Xi'an and ASEAN reached 45.58 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.09 percent. General trade ranked second with a total import and export value of 14.79 billion yuan, accounting for 23.3 percent of the total and marking a year-on-year growth of 34.09 percent. Among them, the general trade export value reached 10.81 billion yuan, up 50.55 percent.

Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia are Xi'an's top four trading partners within ASEAN, together accounting for 90.3 percent of its regional trade. Malaysia is the largest partner, making up over 50 percent, with imports and exports totaling 33.35 billion yuan — a year-on-year increase of 35.3 percent.

Xi'an exported 53.52 billion yuan worth of electromechanical products to ASEAN, a year-on-year increase of 23.8 percent, accounting for 94.0 percent of Xi'an's total. Lithium-ion battery and electric vehicle exports rose by 171.5 percent and 166.9 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Imported high-tech products, including computer-integrated manufacturing technology, electronic components, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, totaled 4.71 billion yuan. Notably, imports of computer-integrated manufacturing technology increased by 185.3 percent year-on-year, providing key support for Xi'an's local electronic information industry.

In addition, coal imports reached nearly 1.8 billion yuan, accounting for 27.3 percent of the city's total imports and contributing significantly to the local energy supply.
