Baoji Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province has made breakthroughs in breeding technology and developed several excellent crop varieties.
The chili oil research institute at the academy, led by Xin Xin, has developed a pepper variety. It grows 70-80 centimeters tall with concentrated fruits, meeting the requirements of mechanical harvesting. In the demo fields of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, it has achieved full mechanization from sowing to harvesting.

The academy has also developed a new soybean variety called Bao Dou 10, which has 43.46 percent protein and is popular among bean product processing corporations. Another new soybean variety, Bao Dou 1519, set a record of yielding 301.8 kilograms per mu (0.06 hectare).
"We aim to develop varieties that are high-yielding and favored by farmers," said Qu Yang, deputy director of the millet crops institute at the academy, adding that they've set up a service team to provide farmers with on-demand technical support via online platforms to boost their earnings.

The newly bred sweet potato variety Qin Shu 13 has also shown excellent performance.
Hou Wuzhou is a direct beneficiary of these agricultural achievements. "I've been planting sweet potatoes for over 20 years, and the new varieties from the academy are the most satisfying," he said. "Their taste is great, and the varieties are constantly updated, with yields increasing year by year."
Wang Zhouyu, president of the academy, said, "Our goal is to grow more good crops and bring more smiles to farmers' faces."
