Xi'an holds international Go chess competition

The "Pomegranate Cup" 10th Silk Road International City Weiqi Open kicked off on Nov 4 at Huaqing Palace, Xi'an, attracting 18 teams from 12 countries, with a total of 54 players competing in this three-day competition.

Since its inception in 2014, the Silk Road International City Weiqi Open has captured people's hearts. The president of the European Go Federation said, "In each competition, we can not only witness exciting games, but also experience the local customs and cultural charm of different cities. The European Go community is deeply grateful to be closely connected to China through such a bridge."

Chang Hao, chairman of the Chinese Weiqi Association, stated at the opening ceremony that Xi'an, as an ancient capital with rich cultural heritage, is also very compatible with weiqi (Go chess). The city boasts a vibrant atmosphere and has previously hosted many important competitions.

Li Xiaogang, vice-president and secretary general of the Xi'an Weiqi Association, said, "Through this international competition, we can improve the level of weiqi competition in Xi'an and promote the sport of weiqi. We will strive for more influential competitions to land in Xi'an."
