The 1st Winter Games of Shaanxi Province: Milestone for Winter Sports and Vitality

As the year 2026 kicked off, preparations for the highly anticipated 1st Winter Games of Shaanxi Province have entered the final stage. This major sports event will officially begin on February 6 in Yulin City.

The Games feature a Youth Group for athletes under 18 and a Mass Group up to age 60, covering 11 events that include skiing, skating, ice hockey, curling, and so on. 

Competition venues will be organized under a "main venue + sub venue" structure, with most events held in Yulin Kechuang New Town and Shenmu City. Bobsleigh and luge events will take place at the Ankang National Snow Sports Training Base.

Yulin Kechuang New Town Skating Center, equipped with 3,000 audience seats and covering a total area of over 9,400 square meters, will host core events such as ice hockey and curling.

The Shenmu Bilinwan Ski Resort has enhanced its facilities with FIS-certified slopes and added new beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs. These upgrades are part of broader service improvements timed with the 1st Winter Games of Shaanxi Province.

The Wangzhuangliang firebreak channel was transformed into a venue for biathlon and cross-country skiing.

The open-water area of the Yulin Water Sports Center will continue to serve as the venue for speed skating events.

On January 1, the torch-lighting ceremony for the 1st Winter Games of Shaanxi Province was held at the Huangchengtai Square of the Shimao Archaeological Site in Shenmu City.

Wang Guizhou, a renowned athlete from Shaanxi Province and the weightlifting champion of the 15th National Games, successfully lit the torch using a traditional concave mirror to focus sunlight.

The torch relay began on January 8, passing through six locations: Shenmu City, Yuyang District, Suide County, Jia County, Jingbian County, and Kechuang New Town in Yulin City.

The 1st Winter Games of Shaanxi Province marks a milestone for winter sports in Shaanxi, serving as a platform to promote fitness, stimulate the winter economy, and showcase the province's vitality.
