Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, opened a cargo route to Chicago on Aug 15, marking the first direct cargo route from Shaanxi province to the United States.

The route uses a Boeing 747 large wide body freighter, with a maximum single haul payload of over 100 metric tons and will operate 130 flights per year, with two to three flights per week. The route mainly exports e-commerce goods and products with high added value, such as clothing, daily necessities, and electronic products, while importing aviation materials and electronic equipment.

It is expected to transport approximately 17,100 tons of international goods annually, which will lead to an increase of over 25 percent in the international cargo and mail throughput of Xi'an's airports.

This route will further facilitate the logistics channel between Xi'an and North America and help strengthen Sino-US civil economic and trade cooperation. The ground support, cargo loading and unloading, customs clearance, and other links along the route have already been smoothly connected, providing efficient and stable international freight services for enterprises.

As a bridgehead for opening-up to the west in inland areas, Xi'an's Airport New City has opened 53 all-cargo routes with the China West Airport Group, including 33 international cargo routes and 20 domestic cargo routes, forming a network that connects five continents.
