Mangzhong, or Grain in Ear, usually falls on June 5th or 6th. Mangzhong is closely related to farm work as it literally means "It's time to harvest awny wheat and plant away rice".

The solar term generally sees a rise in temperature and rainfall, which is suitable for farm work. A saying in Northern China goes that "Plant during Mangzhong and harvest at Summer Solstice", while in Southern China, people say "If you don't plant rice in Mangzhong, planting will be in vain otherwise".
