XI'AN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Four wild leopards were spotted in a national park in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, local authorities said on Friday.

An infrared camera in December 2019 captured video of an adult leopard and three cubs, believed to be a family, on Tianhua Mountain in the Giant Panda National Park.

According to national park staff, leopards, as apex predators, mostly live on mountains and hills, and their settlement indicates the effectiveness of environmental protection measures in the area.

Leopards are classified as a national first-class protected animal in China.
