On May 11th, Guizhou, the Guest Province of the Third Silk Road International Exposition and the Investment and Trade Forum for Cooperation between East and West China, held a promotional meeting for industrial investment in Xi’an.

More than 100 investment projects introduced by Guizhou Province attracted extensive interests from Shaanxi entrepreneurs, who went to have talks with the head of Guizhou “1+8” Open Platform, the department heads of Guiyang and Anshun City as well as company representatives for interested projects. Upon negotiation, they reached a number of cooperative intentions.

Efforts were made to jointly promote the Third Silk Road Expo and seek common development for Shaanxi and Guizhou. Lu Yongzheng, the Vice Governor of Guizhou, said at the meeting that Guizhou is an important land-sea connection for the Belt and Road Initiative in western China. It is implementing the strategy of opening up the interior based on the highway network, which consists of horizontal lines of Beijing-Hohhot-Yinchuan-Lanzhou and Qingdao-Yinchuan and the vertical line of Baotou-Yinchuan-Haikou. He also expressed his hope to further strengthen cooperation with Shaanxi, a significant link in the vertical line.

Upon the approval by the State Council on January 6th, 2014, the People’s Governments of Shaanxi Province and Guizhou were granted rights to establish the Xixian New Area and Gui’an New Area to inject vigor into the development of the two provinces. In recent years, Guizhou has been keeping a fast pace in economic and social development. With the gross regional GDP growing by 10.9% per year, the latecomer Guizhou has surpassed its rival provinces. Meanwhile, Shaanxi has realized rapid development in a catching-up momentum by implementing the “five new” strategy, which was put forward based on the “five requirements”. The two provinces have much in common and cooperation points in military-civilian integration, high-end equipment and cultural tourism. That means they can share the benefits of development.

The promotional meeting held in Xi’an by Guizhou through the Third Silk Road Expo platform not only strengthened economic and trade exchanges with Shaanxi, but also demonstrated that the Silk Road Expo has become a platform of higher level for promoting regional opening up and trade. It is also an implementation point for cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
