Located in the northwestern Shaanxi Province, Dingbian County of Yulin City is situated at the juncture of four provinces: Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, and Inner Mongolia.

Dingbian Drum Tower is a historic landmark building located at the very center of the county streets. The initial building age of this tower has not been validated, but it was rebuilt in the 34th year of Emperor Wanli of Ming dynasty (1606 AD) and underwent several repairs afterward. The Drum Tower has a small lofty standing on a high and noble base. In spite of a number of repairs, the Tower has still maintained its western architectural style of the Ming dynasty and is now listed as a provincial key cultural relics protection unit.

Covering an area of 271 square kilometers with a total height of 30 meters, the Tower is a three-story brick-wood structure with double-eaves crossed hipped-gable roof and eaves like three water drops.

Dingbian boosts not only the Drum Tower but also other cultural sites, including the Relics of Yangshao Culture, the Haotanhan Tombs, the Ancient Great Wall in Sui and Ming dynasties, as well as intangible cultural heritages such as paper cutting, Shuoshu, shadow play, folk songs and others.
