Wuxing Street Catholic Church

Xi’an Wuxingjie Church is located in the Wuxing Street, Xi’an, hence the name. It is also known as Xi’an Catholic South Church, whose full name is San Francesco Cathedral. It is the cathedral and bishop's house in Xi’an Catholic Archdiocese. and it is a cultural relic protection unit in Shaanxi.

It was founded in Qing Kangxi 54 years (AD 1716). During 1716—1727, Lacee, an Italian church member and the second Catholic Bishop in Shaanxi, dispatched Momaday Di, an Italian missionary, to preside over church affairs in Xi’an. So Momaday Di purchased land to build the church. After completion, it was used as the Catholic archdiocese in Shaanxi. During 1765—1785, Chi-Sheng Fang, an Italian Franciscan and the third Catholic Bishop, expanded and reconstructed the church.

Now every religious festival and social festival, the lights are on, giving people a sense of dignity, majesty and respectability. The look of the entire south hall changes a lot, and become much more charming. Lots of visitors flow to the church to visit, inquire and get to know it.

Transportation

2.By bus:

Take bus No. 251, 407, 713, 501 and get off at Tianshuijing Station.

Take bus No. 4, 7, 15, 43, 45, 20, 205, 206, 215, 221, 222, 223, 611, 612 and get off at Qiaozikou, then walk southward for 3 minutes.

By Subway:

Take Subway Line 1 to Wulukou Station(Exit D) and take bus No.187 and get off at Tianshuijing Station.

By Taxi:

It costs about CNY 13 from the Xi’an Railway Station to this scenic area.
