From January to May, 553 key municipal projects under construction completed an investment of 226.06 billion yuan ($33.75 billion), achieving 52 percent of the annual target. That represented a 13.5 percentage-point gain on the January to April period.

It is expected that by the end of June, these projects will complete an investment of more than 260 billion yuan, reaching more than 60 percent of the annual target.

On June 23, a provincial on-site assessment of the city's key projects was held, with officials visiting six of them.

The six projects are in the fields of automobiles, electronic information, aerospace, high-end equipment manufacturing, food and biomedicine – as well as the Qinchuangyuan innovation platform and new infrastructure.

One of them – BYD's new energy auto parts production and capacity expansion project, with a total investment of 15 billion yuan – is located in Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone.

The project will mainly construct production plants for electric assemblies, motors, gears, electronic controls, power supply equipment, brakes and other core components for new energy vehicles (NEVs).

It is expected that on completion, it will greatly boost BYD's NEV manufacturing capabilities, and improve the overall support capabilities for the NEV industrial chain in Xi'an and Shaanxi.

Moving forwards, Xi'an is expected to continue to speed up the construction of key projects, to help Shaanxi's high-quality economic and social development.
