Recently, construction was officially completed on China's first archaeological museum, the Shaanxi Archaeology Museum, which will be open to the public on a trial basis on April 28, 2022.

Why is it necessary to build another archaeological museum in Shaanxi, where there are many museums already?

As of 2020, there are 7.74 million cultural relics and 319 museums in Shaanxi, which include most of the important archaeological discoveries in Shaanxi. However, there are still some artifacts that are currently under excavation and restoration, as well as artifacts that have not been displayed before. These cultural treasures are yet to be introduced into the museums.

The Shaanxi Archaeological Museum is a major platform to showcase the cultural relics, based on more than 60 years of archaeological excavations by the Shaanxi Archaeological Research Institute. It is a magnificent museum integrating archaeological research, cultural relics protection, education and display, and cultural industry.

For the first time, these precious cultural relics unearthed from major archaeological excavation projects will be systematically displayed to the audience on a large scale. For the featured artifacts, which could only be seen in the news, visitors can now take a look at them in person in the Shaanxi Archaeological Museum.
