East Asian Cultural Capital Concert 2020 comes to a successful conclusion in Xi'an

The East Asian Cultural Capital 2020 program, a year-long international music and cultural event held in Xi’an, capital city of Shaanxi province in Northwest China, came to a successful conclusion on Dec 10, with New Year's greetings sent from China, Japan and South Korea to the people of the world.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, and organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shaanxi Province and the People's Government of Xi'an city, the "New Spring Concert of the East Asian Cultural Capital" was the program's first large-scale offline cultural activity since the outbreak of the epidemic.

The main part of the concert was the performance of a symphony, supplemented by choral works and Tang poetry recitals. There were not only classic works such as Festival Overture and Duihua, which are classic festive works in China, but also some classic pieces representing China, Japan and South Korea.

This concert held in Xi'an had a unique significance and far-reaching impacts.

China, Japan and South Korea are geographically adjacent, with similar cultures and friendly exchanges, which have a long history. The "East Asian Cultural Capital" program, which started in 2013, is a flagship brand and an important platform for cultural exchanges between the three countries, and is also the first international cultural city naming activity in Asia. It has obvious effects in terms of boosting the host city's image and promoting its cultural and tourism industry.

It has been seven years since the first East Asian Cultural Capital was launched and 2019 was the year of Xi'an, one of the capitals of East Asian Culture. With the theme of "the cultural capital of East Asia - ancient charm", Xi'an set up eight themes, including cultural heritage, New Year customs, art and tourism, and successively launched more than 40 wonderful activities, presenting a colorful cultural feast.

Culture is colorful because of communication, and civilization is enriched by mutual learning. In the future, China, Japan and South Korea will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation, so that the East Asian cultural circle will produce more fruitful results.
