Many scenic spots in Shaanxi Province are of great popularity during this year’s National Day Holiday. Terror Cotta Warriors and Horses, as one of the must-visit classical scenic spots in Shaanxi Province, experienced a historical high in terms of daily and total tourist visits.

On October 6th, journalists learned from the surveillance footage of Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum that the number of that very day’s tourists has dropped significantly from the first two days. According to the staff, the number of tourists will normally fall back during the last two days of the National Day Holiday each year. Compared with the packed crowd of visitors on the first two days, many tourists said that they have gained more enjoyable visits in the last two days.

The staff also said that although the estimated number of tourists on October 6th is expected to hit 50, 000, the total number during the first six days of the National Day Holiday reached 526,000, which was higher than the total number of tourists during the eight-day holiday combined by the National Day Holiday and the Mid-Autumn Festival Holiday last year. On October 3rd and 4th, Terror Cotta Warriors and Horses received 132,000 and 121,000 tourists respectively. During the holiday, the Terror Cotta Warriors and Horses Special Expressway witnessed traffic congestion and intermittent release was adopted at the exit toll station. At the same time, the parking lots of the scenic spot were all full for several consecutive days. According to the managing personnel of Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, despite the rise in the number of tourists every year, this year’s volume has exceeded the current capacity.

Wang Runlu, Deputy Secretary of the Museum’s Party Committee and Vice President of Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum said, “We have faced arduous tests during the ‘Golden Week’ this year. A lot of preparation work had been done before the holiday, including the increase in security forces, public toilets, and ticket windows, the extension of ticketing, and opening hours to offer a comfortable and safe environment for tourists. Nevertheless, this year’s tourist volume during the ‘Golden Week’ has far exceeded the maximum capacity of the scenic spot. Hence, we will conduct further studies on policies to limit the number of tourists to the museum in responding to the situation. Meanwhile, we reckon it will be highly beneficial for the tourists if they could adopt staggered shifts to avoid holiday rush hours.”
