China’s first large manned airship rolled off the assembly line

China's first large manned airship “GTGA-K9000 air travel and sightseeing airship” rolled off the assembly line at the Xi’an Yanliang National Aviation High-tech Industrial Base on September 12th. The airship can hold 28 people, which ranks first in capacity when compared with other airships currently in the world.

The “GTGA-K9000 Air Travel and Sightseeing Airship” was researched and designed by Shaanxi Geotime General Aviation Co., Ltd., and was jointly manufactured by Shaanxi Geotime General Aviation Co., Ltd., the Academy of Opto-electronics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Xi’an Carbon Materlials Co., Ltd. of the Fourth Institute of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. The airship has a total length of 66 meters and a volume of 11,500 cubic meters. It is powered by lithium batteries and is designed to reach an altitude of 3,000 meters. Despite being used primarily for sightseeing, the airship can also be used for emergency communications, security patrols and other fields.

According to the relevant person in charge of Shaanxi Geotime General Aviation Co., Ltd., the airship is a part of the project of the national major military-civilian dual-use technology development project. At present, the “GTGA-K9000 Air Travel and Sightseeing Airship” has been fully assembled and is expected to be officially put into operation next year.
