Novel cultural IP in Xi'an becomes a sensation
Recently, the Grand Tang All Day Mall in Xi'an creatively created this interactive street performance "Grand Tang Secret Box", which went viral rapidly. Two actors wearing ancient costumes transform into the famous courtiers of the Tang Dynasty—— Fang Xuanling and Du Ruhui. They pop up questions to interact with the tourists, and their witty Q&A has received tremendous responses. Once the on-site performance was spread online, both characters quickly became internet celebrities.
"Grand Tang Secret Box" as a new interactive show, launched by Grand Tang All Day Mall, features historical and cultural knowledge. This live performance focuses on audience interactions, making historical celebrities come alive. The show boasts Chinese poems and songs, traditional festivals, historical allusions, and even some common knowledge in daily life, aiming to popularize Chinese historical and cultural trivia to the audiences. On top of that, the interactive experience highly resembles stand-up comedy shows, sending out a novel vibe.
The actor playing "Fang Xuanling" was born in 2000, named Wang Ze, and the actor playing "Du Ruhui" was born in 1997, named Chen Yufei. Both of them are local people in Shaanxi.
When it comes to why the characters of Fang Xuanling and Du Ruhui were selected, Wang Ze said: "This has to be attributed to our creative planning team. Previously we already had many well-known historical characters such as Emperor Tang Taizong and Concubine Yang Yuhuan. Fang Xuanling and Du Ruhui are the famously known 'wise courtiers' during the Tang Dynasty, and the idiom 'Fang Mou Du Duan' has been classic, so these two figures were chosen accordingly." ("Fang Mou Du Duan" applies the story of Fang and Du to indicate harmonious cooperation between people with different talents)
