New ecological park to open in Xi'an

The Yonganqu Sponge City Ecological Park – located in the Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – is scheduled to open to the public on May 1.

A sponge city is a new-generation urban rainwater management concept. It refers to a city that can function as a sponge by absorbing rainwater and adapt to environmental changes and natural disasters caused by torrential rain.

The park gives full play to the technical advantages of the sponge city project, which is expected to not only improve the overall image of the region, but also improve the environment.

The park is divided into three parts: residential neighborhoods, ecological headquarters and commercial zones.

In terms of positioning design, it mainly carries out transmission and purification, and relies on the flow direction of the water system to carry out multi-layer comprehensive purification and filtration of the water area.

In addition to the construction of various natural and cultural landscapes such as flowers, shrubs, water systems, and sports, the park has also added interactive sponge devices, water purification devices and sponge display facilities.

Xi'an has long been concerned with preserving its environment. In 2021, the city built or renovated 169 green space squares and pocket parks, built 511 kilometers of greenways, and added 16.18 million square meters of urban green space.
