Yulin - Pearl of the Frontier

Yulin, the 'National Historical and Cultural City', was also known as "Shangjun" in ancient times. It has the world famous cultural heritage of the Great Wall-Zhenbei Fort, the top fort in the country, one of the ten most promising ancient cities in China —— the ancient city of Yulin, as well as the Hongshi Gorge, Tongwancheng relics, Hongjiannao scenic area, Yulin Desert National Forest Park, Shimao Site, Baiyun Mountain and other major attractions. A city with such peculiar elements is pretty rare China, hence the title 'National Historical and Cultural City'.

After the completion of the Torch Relay from Xi'an City, Weinan City, Hancheng City, and Yan'an City, the torch was passed down to Yulin City and the starting ceremony of the Torch Relay was held at the Century Square.

After the fine performance of the Shanbei folk song medley and percussion "National Games Drum Soul", the first torchbearer in Yulin City Shi Guangyin slowly ran off the ceremony stage with the torch, and the relay officially started.          Torch Relay Route: Century Square - Bell Tower Alley - Xinjian Road - Renmin Road - North Avenue - South Avenue - Yuyang Road - Binhe Road - Changcheng Road - Yuxi Tower.

One of the featured sites along the Torch Relay route has to be mentioned —— an antique street that often comes to the spotlight. Well known as the 'Riding Street with Six Towers', the street in total length is about 2 km, and the six antique towers are located along the street from north to south, namely the Drum Tower, Kaige Tower, Bell Tower, Xinming Tower, Wanfo Tower, and Wenchang Pavilion. Also with Zhenbei Tower the ‘Largest Beacon Tower of the Great Wall’ in the north and 13-floor Lingxiao Tower in the south of the city, Yulin, already titled as the 'Pearl of the Frontier', just enriches its historical accumulation via these featured site views.

67 torchbearers passed the torch on the approximately 6-kilometer relay route. They input their own stories to enrich the connotation of the sacred flame, leaving their footprints as the fuel to push forward this era.       In the end, Ren Rui, the last torchbearer of the event, came to Yuxi Tower, the final site. The flame was sealed and then sent to the next stop. Keep up with us and check out Tongchuan City tomorrow!
