Shaanxi in pics: Tongwan Fortress at sunrise
Located in Jingbian County, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, Tongwan Fortress is the only capital site left by Xiongnu in the long history of mankind. The remains were eroded by wind, rain, and quicksand and once buried under the desert due to the harsh ecological environment. Now, sand control efforts of several generations has improved the local ecological environment significantly and turned the white broken walls on the endless sand land into an attraction among lush trees.
