Yaowang Mountain is located 1.5 kilometers away from the east of the Yaozhou district in Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province. The well-known physician Sun Simiao in Tang Dynasty, honored as Yaowang (Master of Medicine), once led a reclusive life here for quite a long time. Hence, the mountain was named after him. Initially called Wutaishan, it is composed of five mountains which are flat at the top, just like the 5 fingers of a man if looked from far away, so it was also named Wuzhishan, or Five Finger Mountain. Later, in honor of the great physician, people changed its name into Yaowang Mountain. As more and more grand temples, halls, statues and steles have been built deep in the forest and surrounded by the mountains, the Yaowang Mountain has become a  sacred medicine land.

Yaowang Mountain has the most stone sculptures built in the Northern Dynasty, Sui and Tang dynasties. In 1961, it was proclaimed one of the key cultural relic protection units. Also, it is listed in the Top 100 Wonders in Northwest China in the China Tourism Marketing Conference & Tourism Equipment Exhibition 2018.
