Ansai Waist Drum: a traditional folk dance

Ansai Waist Drum Dancing is a traditional folk dance of Shaanxi Province. The dance can be performed by several or hundreds of people simultaneously. The particular and superb expressiveness of this dance gained itself the name of No.1 Drum in China. In 1996, Ansai District of Yan’an was designated by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China as the Hometown of Waist Drum in China.

On May 20th, 2006, approved by the State Council, Ansai Waist Drum was listed among the first batch of the intangible cultural heritage in China.
