Mount Hua: the majestically western mountain
Mount Hua, formerly known as “Xiyue”, has an elegant name of “Taihua Mountain”. As one of the Five Great Mountains in China and the birthplace of the Chinese civilization, it is also where the Chinese character “hua (华)” in “zhonghua (中华)” and “huaxia (华夏)” originated. Located in Huayin, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, about 120 kilometers east of Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, Mount Hua adjoins the Qinling Mountains to the south and overlooks the Yellow River and the Wei River to the north. It has long been called the “most dangerous mountain in the world” and is among the first batch of National key scenic spots, the national 5A scenic spots and the national key cultural relics protection units.
