The idiom “Qin Jin Zhi Hao” refers to the political marriage alliance between Qin and Jin during the Spring and Autumn Period (approximately 771 to 476 BC). What were the spheres of influence between Qin and Jin over 2,500 years ago? The ruins of the Spring and Autumn Period unearthed in Yichuan County, Shaanxi Province provides a new insight to this question. The Chongpingyuan ruins are located in the Chongpingyuna Village, Danzhou Town, Yichuan County, Shaanxi Province. They were explored as well as excavated by the Shaanxi Provincial Archaeology Research Institute and the Yichuan Museum. The exploration indicates that the ruins consist of residences and tombs, covering an area of 100,000 square meters with a length of up to 700 meters from south to east and a width of up to 250 meters from east to west. Geographically, Yichuan sits along the west side of the Yellow River, against the core areas of the Jin Culture to the east and next to the territory of Qin to the west. The discovery and excavation of the Chongpingyuan ruins provide a new basis to study the sphere of influence of Jin, the rise and fall of the political power between Qin and Jin, and to define the limits of the northern ethnic groups moving southwards.
