Unique traditional Shaanxi foods in graffiti containers becomes a Mazui Village star

The graffiti container art block has been built in Mazui Village, Yaozhou District of Tongchuan City in Shaanxi Province. In this art block, many women from the Mazui Village and its neighboring villages make their favorite Shaanxi dishes there. In the photo, Ms. Wang is making the local specialty snack—twisted noodles, a type of handmade noodles. First, mix the dough and knead it by hand; then, let it stand for some time; and finally, twist the dough into long and thin noodles.

In the graffiti container art block, there are more than 270 novel and delicate container shops from soup to nuts, such as Shaanxi special snack bars, beverage shops, folk-custom handicraft shops, ceramic craft shops, cafes, tea houses and pubs. Among them, the most popular are the local specialty snacks.

The international graffiti contest has been held annually in Mazui Village since 2013. After these contests, the graffiti have been reserved, forming the unique scenery of Mazui Village.

Ms. Wang comes from Yaoqu Town of Tongchuan City, and she brings the Yaoqu specialty snack –Floured Potato Balls to Mazui Village. As a staple food, Floured Potato Balls has a long-standing history. In the past, few local people could afford floured foods due to poverty, but chose potatoes as their main course every day. However, they got bored with potatoes and wanted to have something new. Then, they scraped potatoes into mash, added some flour and kneaded them together to make balls about the same size as glue puddings. Once the balls were well steamed, they added in some sauce, vinegar, chili pepper and salt, and then a bowl of spicy and delicious Floured Potato Balls was done. Those balls taste silky but not greasy. With the perfect chewiness, they are rather dainty.
