“Former Capital of Xiongnu” – Tongwan City

Tongwan City Ruins is located in Jingbian County, Shaanxi Province, near to the Ming Great Wall bordering Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia. In Chinese history, it is the capital site of Daxia Kingdom established by the Southern Xiongnu nobility Helian Bobo during the Sixteen States Period; also, it is the only trackable capital ruins preserved of Xiongnu nationality over the long history of human society, which has been more than 1,600 years.

Tongwan City is composed of inner city and outer city; the inner city is divided into east city and west city. The east city and the west city are respectively 2,566 and 2,470 meters long; the site belongs to cob remains.

Tongwan City has rich historical and cultural connotation and great significance to ecological environment, and is of important value in archaeology, architectural art, scientific research and tourism. Now, it is listed as one of national cultural protection sites. In 2012, it is enrolled by the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.

Geographic location: Baichengzi Village, Hongdunjie Town, Jingbian County, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province

Transportation: Take regular bus from Yulin Long-distance Passenger Station to Jingbian County, and then take the minibus from Jingbian to Baichengze (Village) at Jingbian County Bus Station
