Sea in the Desert - Hongjiannao Lake

Hongjiannao Lake, which is 70km away from downtown area of Shenmu County, with an elevation of 1,100 meters above the ground, and the lake surface area of 41.8 km2, is the biggest desert freshwater lake of China, and the world biggest breeding place and habitat of rare and endangered bird - larus relictus. The lake water contains a small quantity of alkali, and the lake surface near the bank is in light red, so it is called Hongjiannao (red alkaline lake). The scenic area is honored as national 4A scenic area.
